Artist's Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas: According to Early Renaissance belief, Venus emerged from the sea as a fully-grown woman, arriving at the shore of Cyprus on a scallop shell.
Sandro Botticelli was commissioned to paint the work by the Medici family of Florence in 1485. He painted this scene using tempera pigment on canvas mounted to a wood panel 110” x 68” (279 cm x 173 cm). His original painting is on display in the Uffizi Museum, Florence, Italy. It is not available at any price.

After a 7-year “study” of Sandro Botticelli’s original masterpiece, in 2003, I completed my same size version 110” x 68” (279 cm x 173 cm) shown above using oil paint on triple primed modern canvas. I added an ornate gold finished wood frame 6” wide x 3” deep (15 cm x 8 cm). Outside frame dimension is 122” x 80” (310cm x 203cm).
